The Clayton County Board of Education named Dr. Anthony W. Smith as superintendent of Clayton County Public Schools. Smith, who has been serving as interim superintendent, was offered a two-year contract extension, effective July 1.
CCBOE President Jessie Goree made the motion, seconded by Dr. Mark Christmas:
The unanimous vote was met with cheers and applause as Smith, who was highly regarded at CCPS and by county leaders (including Board of Commissioners Chair Jeff Turner and Sheriff Levon Allen) before he took the interim superintendent’s position December 5, 2022, bowed to the audience. Smith took over after the board and former Superintendent Morcease Beasley parted ways.
