Here’s a very quick look at what’s happening with your Clayton County elected officials this week:

Monday, June 5

  • 5:30 p.m.: Board of Commissioners Pre-agenda Meeting
    • “MARTA Q2 Jurisdictional Briefing” (MARTA General Manager/CEO Collie Greenwood)
    • “Personnel Actions” (Solicitor General Charles A. Brooks)
    • “New Travel Policy” (Interim CFO Stacey Merritt)
  • 6:30 p.m.: Board of Commissioners Regular Business Meeting highlights:
    • District 3 Commissioner Felicia Franklin has asked for a discussion of Rainbow House, Inc.’s rental agreement and “all fiscal matters pertaining to such not to exclude current and previous CDBG funding applications and subsequent awards”
    • District 4 Commissioner Demont Davis has three board appointments to make:
      • Development Authority of Clayton County (Invest Clayton): Regina Deloach’s term expired May 22; the next term lasts four years until May 27, 2027. Deloach is chair of the board.
      • Library Board: Dr. Donya Sartor resigned from the Library Board when she was elected mayor of Jonesboro; the term expires February 1, 2025.
      • Family and Children Services Board: Charlton Bivins’ term expires June 30, 2023. The next term runs five (5) years through June 30, 2028.
    • A full board/at-large appointment is open for the Library Board after Dr. Chantara Rumph-Carter’s resignation; the term expires November 2, 2024.
    • Resolution 2023-111 would seek a $29,177 grant from the State of Georgia Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (“CJCC”), on behalf of the Clayton County Judicial Circuit, “exclusively for security services at 675 Forest Parkway, Forest Park, Georgia for evening and weekend substance use disorder counseling services for participants of Clayton County’s DUI Court and Adult Felony Drug Court (“Accountability Courts”).”

Wednesday, June 7

  • 6 p.m.: Property Tax Town Hall Meeting. Sen. Gail Davenport and Rep. Sandra Scott are hosting an online town hall meeting to explain how to appeal your property taxes. They will be joined by Clayton County Tax Commissioner Danielle Smith, Clayton County Chief Tax Appraiser Emmitte George, Jr., and property tax consultant LaGalylia Appleby. Thursday, June 8

  • 12 p.m.: MARTA Board of Directors holds a work session, followed by the regular meeting at 1:30 p.m, at 2424 Piedmont Road NE’s 6th floor board room in Atlanta. The public is welcome or you can watch the meeting online on MARTA’s YouTube channel.
  • 5:30 p.m.: Forest Park Urban Redevelopment Authority meets at City Hall.
  • 6:30 p.m.: Clayton County Federation of Democratic Women is holding a Zoom meeting on how to check your voting status before you get an ugly surprise at the polling place. Register in advance at bit.ly/3WTzv16
