The Clayton County Police Department has issued a Shelter in Place emergency warning for people in Hampton and Lovejoy.

CCPD says “There is gunfire in the area of Walden Landing Apartment, Madison Heights Apartments, and the Home Depot in Lovejoy, GA. Again, Please shelter-in-place.”

The gunman, Jeremiah Rose, 41, had barricaded himself all night in a home in the 11000 block of Tara Glynn Drive, has fled and is considered armed and dangerous. Avoid the area and do not approach him. Call 911 immediately.

The Lovejoy Home Depot is at 11075 Tara Boulevard. Police say to avoid the immediate area on and neighborhoods around that part of Tara Boulevard.

CCPD issued this statement after a called asked for a welfare check shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday:

“The caller advised [Rose] was experiencing a mental crisis. During the investigation, officers learned that Jeremiah Rose was upset regarding out-of-state warrants. Officers learned Jeremiah Rose had a warrant for Failure to Appear for Aggravated Assault with a Weapon (3 Counts) out of Louisiana. Officers were advised Jeremiah Rose has several guns and a long gun inside the residence. After several attempts, Jeremiah Rose refuse[d] to come out of the residence.

“Please issue an emergency shelter-in-place public service announcement for this area as the suspect is now on foot and is considered to be armed and dangerous.

Please keep in mind the above information is preliminary and could change as the investigation progress or new information comes to light.”

Neighbors were not allowed to go home overnight, forcing at least one woman to sleep in her car.

Both CCPD and the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office are on site.
