A Clayton County Police officer’s family was in surgery at Grady Hospital Thursday morning after a woman threatening suicide shot her.

On Tuesday night around 11 p.m., officers responded to the 7800 block of Newbury Drive in Jonesboro after a series of suicide calls. Police say Aiyanah Pryor, 25, called 9:40 p.m. Her mother then called at 10:05 p.m. Finally, Pryor called again at 11 p.m.

When Ofc. Demika Lloyd made contact with Pryor, police said in a press release, Pryor fired two shots, striking Lloyd, then took off in a black Jeep.

CCPD issued a BOLO (be on the lookout) “to all surrounding agencies.” When Atlanta Police found the Jeep near Macon Drive and Polar Rock Road, CCPD says, Pryor allegedly shot at those officers, who fired back, striking her.

Pryor, who joined the force in 2021, was taken to Atlanta Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. She was listed in critical but stable condition Thursday morning.

CCPD Chief Kevin Roberts held a press conference overnight:

CCPD’s Criminal Investigation Division is handling the case. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and APD are investigating the officer-involved shooting in Atlanta.
