The Clayton County Police Department’s Special Operations Narcotics Unit, along with federal law enforcement agents, scored a huge weapons and drug bust in Riverdale on Tuesday, January 19.

According to a CCPD press release, during a joint investigation in the 600 block of Poplar Springs Road, a K-9 “conducted a free air sniff at a storage unit. The K-9 gave indications to a positive alert which allowed the narcotics unit to obtain a search warrant.”

What they found were 14 handguns, three of which had automatic switches; 31 long guns; 46 magazines; “miscellaneous ammo”; and 75.9 grams of crack cocaine, which is about 2.677 ounces.

CCPD declined to state which federal agencies took part in the seizure.

CCPD spokesman Ofc. Jordan Parrish said Tuesday’s operation was unrelated to a SWAT standoff in Riverdale last Friday involving another Narcotics Division investigation.
