The Clayton County Board of Elections and Registration will begin early processing of absentee ballots today, Monday, June 13. Early ballots will be processed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Election Day, Tuesday, June 21.
The public is invited to observe the process, which involves opening envelopes and scanning paper ballots, at 7946 N. McDonough Street, Jonesboro. Any schedule changes or suspension of activities for any length of time will be posted on the door.
Observers will be required to check in, take a badge, sign an oath that they will not disrupt the proceedings, and relinquish cell phones or other electronic recording devices before being allowed to observe. Any attempt to collect or disclose any balloting information before the polls close at 7 p.m. on June 21 is “strictly prohibited” under state law.
Computation and canvassing of the return votes cast will take place on June 21, 2022 after the polls close at 7 p.m. and will continue until all votes are tabulated. The public is also welcome to observe at that time.
