A Rex man is in custody after what police are calling an “active shooter” incident near Fielder Road late Sunday night.
Clayton County Police aren’t saying much about the incident, citing an ongoing investigation. A source told The Clayton Crescent, “(T)here is huge activity on Fielder Road and Babbling Brook Drive… two or three fire engines. Probably two ambulances, many, many police cars in all directions. And officers with the helmets like SWAT.”
At 11:17 p.m., a CCPD spokesperson told The Clayton Crescent that a negotiation team was enroute.
At 12:50 a.m. Monday, CCPD issued a press release that said officers had responded to a “discharge firearm call” at 9:32 p.m. in the 6900 block of Fielder Road in Rex.
“During the investigation, officers learned that an active shooter was in the area of the incident location,” the press release read. “The suspect is now in custody. Due to this still being an ongoing investigation, we are unable to release further information at this time.”
Clayton County jail records show a Jerry Theodore Bland II, 31, of Rex, was booked at 11:45 p.m. Sunday night for aggravated assault upon a public safety officer, criminal trespass-damage to property, and false imprisonment.
