A Forest Park man is behind bars and a young father is dead after a family Easter gathering in Riverdale.

Early Sunday morning, around 12:11 a.m., Clayton County Police Officers responded to the shooting in the 200 block of Valley Hill Road. There, they found Reginald Manual, 19, shot and lying in the driveway. While officers gave him first aid, CCPD says, Manual “was able to declare who shot him.” He died later at a local hospital.

According to investigators. Manual was at an Easter party with his girlfriend and her family. He and his girlfriend’s mother allegedly got into “a heated argument” because Manual wanted to take his child from the house. Manual then walked out.

Several other witnesses corroborated Manual’s declaration, which led police to arrest Jaswan Burroughs, 36, who is the boyfriend of Manual’s girlfriend’s mother, as the alleged shooter. He was taken into custody.

Burroughs is and charged with malice murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is set to appear before Clayton County Chief Magistrate Judge Keisha Wright Hill during Monday’s 10 a.m. first appearance hearing. As of press time, Clayton County Magistrate Court was still holding first appearances on its YouTube channels.
