A man is in custody, charged with shooting a woman at the QuikTrip at 5390 Riverdale Road in College Park Sunday night.
Clayton County Police responded at 9:35 p.m. to a call of a person who had been shot. When they arrived, they found the woman and “immediately began rendering aid,” according to CCPD spokesman Ofc. Jordan Parrish. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police “immediately detained” Ja’quarius Tyrek Thomas, 18, of Atlanta and took him to CCPD headquarters “for further investigation. During the investigation, CCPD detectives were able to gather enough evidence and probable cause” to arrest Thomas on malice murder. Thomas also is charged with possession of a firearm during commission of a crime and theft by receiving of stolen property.
Thomas was booked into the Clayton County Jail at 11:36 a.m. Monday. No bond had been set as of press time. Thomas is considered innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
CCPD provided a mugshot of Thomas for identification purposes. It is the editorial policy of The Clayton Crescent not to publish mugshots of people who have been accused of crimes unless there is a manhunt, hostage situation, or similar active incident.
Details about the woman were not yet available as of press time, Parrish said.
