In Morrow, incumbent Dorothy Dean ran unopposed and received 391 votes for Seat 1.
For Seat 3, incumbent Renee S. Knight took 296 votes (51.12%) while newcomer Hue Nguyen got 283 (48.87%), a difference of 13 votes.
Clayton County Elections and Registration figures show 370 advance and 1 provisional ballot were cast in early voting at the Morrow Municipal Complex, with 208 cast today at Morrow City Hall, for a turnout of 579 registered voters.
Of the 3,323 registered voters in Morrow eligible to cast ballots today, 584 or 17.57% turned out. Also on the ballot was a non-binding question about a proposed $80,000 homestead exemption. That passed 375 (66.49%) to 189 (33.51%).
Nguyen gathered with supporters, among whom were Councilman Khoa Vuong, Councilwoman Van Tran, and former economic development director Bao Dang. She told The Clayton Crescent, “I’m just happy that whatever the result is, that I accept it, because I am able to get united with community and that I want to continue to serve the community. This is not the stop. This is the just beginning, and that is my hope and dream, to give back to the community.”
The Clayton County Board of Elections and Registration will hold a special called meeting via Zoom on Friday, Nov. 5 at 5:30 p.m. to certify Morrow’s election results.
