security photo of suspect in Waffle House theft

by Robin Kemp

Jonesboro Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man who they say stole a cash box from the Waffle House at 8765 Tara Boulevard on August 5.

According to the police report, an employee said a Black male came in about 5:15 a.m. and asked to use the restroom: “Once the male exited the restroom, he suddenly grabbed the cash register box and ran out the door with it.”

The employee told police “she saw a gray sedan speeding away southbound on Tara Boulevard with its headlights off.”

While the employee didn’t know whether the man was armed, she estimates he got away with about $300.

The suspect is described as “thin built, young, wearing skinny jeans, a black t-shirt with heavy print on it, a black do-rag, and a blue face mask.”

A second employee corroborated the story.

Police did review security footage at the restaurant and took photos of the scene but the suspect left no usable fingerprints behind.

Waffle House’s security director sent video and photos of the suspect to Jonesboro Police on July 17.

If you have any information about the man in the photo, you are asked to call Detective Triplett in Criminal Investigations at (678) 479-1825, extension 109, or e-mail  dtriplett@jonesboroga.com. You also can call the TIPLINE at (470) 543-2011. Be sure to mention case number 21-08-00086.
