As of the 12 noon cutoff for qualified candidates in the September 21 special election to fill the late Sonna Singleton Gregory’s District 1 seat on the Clayton County Board of Commissioners, here’s who will be running.
All candidates are Democrats and all candidates would be first-timers in the District 1 seat. We have included website information submitted to the Georgia Secretary of State’s office via the Clayton County Elections and Registration Office. Any qualified candidates who would like to add a campaign website link are welcome to send it.

Our role is to give you information about each candidate so that you, as a registered voter in Clayton County, can make an informed decision before casting your ballot.
The Clayton County Federation of Democratic Women is holding a candidate forum on Saturday, July 24 at Tabernacle of Praise Church International, 2450 Mt. Zion Parkway in Morrow. The church is between Stilwell School of the Arts and Kaiser Permanente Southwood. Moderating will be Kathy Adams, director of the National Federation of Democratic Women Southern Region.
Important Election Dates
Monday, July 5 through Friday, September 10: Mail-in absentee ballot applications accepted. You must allow for mailing time, so don’t take any chances–mail your application sooner rather than later.
Monday, August 23 through Friday, September 17: Absentee Voting by Mail. Again, get your ballot in the mail sooner rather than later. If it’s getting close to time, consider using an Absentee Ballot Drop Box, which will ONLY be available during the hours that the polls are open for in-person voting, due to the new statewide voting law, SB202. Plan accordingly.
Monday, August 30 through Friday, September 17: Absentee Voting by Drop Box will be open ONLY while polls are open for in-person voting, due to the new statewide voting law, SB202. Plan accordingly.
Monday, August 30 through Friday, September 17: In-Person Early Voting will take place for District 1 voters ONLY at the following locations:
- Historic Courthouse, 121 South McDonough Street, Annex II, Second Floor, Jonesboro
- Morrow City Hall, 1500 Morrow Road, Morrow
- Carl Rhodenizer Recreation Center, 3499 Rex Road, Rex
- City of Forest Park Senior Center, 5087 Park Avenue, Forest Park (NOT at the gymnasium–the Senior Center is the one-story building near, but not next to, to the stadium)
