A Riverdale man is dead after strong winds knocked down a tree limb that fell on his truck early Monday morning.

Clayton County Police say Harvey Hillman, 65, was on his way to work and headed out to his truck when he was hit on the head by “a large limb from a tree [that] fell upon his truck.”

Hillman’s family heard the noise and ran outside, where they found him unresponsive. Family members “carried him out of the storm and attempted life-saving measures, but were unsuccessful,” CCPD said.

The National Weather Service said straight-line winds knocked down the branch. NWS also confirmed that an EF-1 tornado, with maximum sustained winds of 90 miles per hour, apparently snapped trees in half and downed power lines near Bethsaida Road and Lakefield Forest Drive shortly after 6 a.m. Monday. The tornado apparently crossed Fayetteville Road, then lifted up again near Monarch Drive, survey crews said.
