Democratic members of the Georgia House from Clayton County and Southwest Atlanta issued a letter reacting to the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris:

“Today is proof that the ‘American Dream’ is attainable. We will have the oldest President, first female Vice President and a diverse cabinet leading our nation. America is in good hands.”Â
Rep. Rhonda Burnough (D-77), Riverdale

“Today, we can finally exhale! We stand in the midst of history with the swearing in of a Democratic President and our first Female Vice President, a woman of color. Leadership matters. We are excited knowing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are the answer to America’s prayers and a response to America’s needs. I am very hopeful that America will have alignment of its values, policies, and justice for all. Our work continues.”
Rep. Kim Schofield (D-60), Atlanta

“Today is a wonderful day, I have two daughters who will witness history being made as we swear in the first woman and first person of color to serve as Vice President of the United States of America. I hope my daughters and all women see this as encouragement to pursue their dreams and not allow anyone to sit their limitations for them that they alone will decide how far they can go in life and do all they can to achieve all that they expect in this life.”
Rep. Roger Bruce (D-61), Atlanta

“Today, we embark on a new era that promises a renewed hope, future, civility, and normalcy. I am elated that President Elect Joe Biden and Vice President Elect Kamala Harris have already exemplified the character of those titles and have allowed us to believe in Democracy in the United States of American once again. As a Black woman, I am so proud that we have celebrated the first Black President and now celebrating the first Black woman as Vice President of the United States of America! I pray much success for them both and our country!”
Rep. Debra Bazemore (D-63), South Fulton, Minority Caucus Chief Deputy Whip

“Today is a Happy Day. We have made History again, and I want to thank the citizens of Georgia for sealing the deal. I am so excited to see a change coming to the White House. I am overjoyed knowing that a Black-Asian woman will make history today as the Vice-President of the United States of America. When I think about how our ancestors fought, died, and paved the way for this day, my heart cries out nothing but joy. I never thought I would live to see a Black President and now to see a Black-Asian woman as Vice-President, it is nothing but joy. We have come a long way. We must Stay Woke and remain Focused. I will continue to pray for President Biden, Vice-President Kamala Harris and the USA.”
Rep. Sandra Scott (D-76), Rex
