A look at the Georgia Power outage map confirms that many residents of Clayton County and the Southside will be in the dark until late Sunday, November 1.

Georgia Power says 1,531 customers are without power as of 3:43 p.m. Friday, October 30. However, a “customer” means an account, not the number of people who depend on that account for their electricity:

This is how Georgia Power’s outage map looked Friday, Oct. 30 at 3:20 p.m. Georgia Power listed 1,531 customers (accounts) out of 116,426 in Clayton County. Each of those accounts affects a different number of people, such as family members living at one address or a business that serves hundreds of customers per day.

Widespread, longterm outages in the wake of Hurricane Zeta blowing through metro Atlanta have crews working to remove downed trees and power lines.

The outages affect not only residents but also some area businesses. In Morrow, shoppers found the Walmart on Jonesboro Road was without power as late as midday Friday. No one answered a call to the store for more information.
