The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says it has identified four suspects in the on-campus shooting of a Clayton State University student on October 24. The student remains in Grady Hospital in critical condition.

GBI spokesperson Nelly Miles said Clayton State University Police requested the GBI’s help after the student was shot inside Laker Hall around 10:30 a.m. last Saturday. Other students and CSUPD “rendered aid to the victim,” Miles said.

An “on-campus surveillance system” identified a vehicle with four people inside as it left the area. The car turned up in LaGrange around 1:30 p.m. that afternoon.

The GBI has identified the suspects as:

  • Zydarius Arkady Brewer, 18, of LaGrange
  • Braylen Tremaine Staples, 19, of LaGrange
  • Ra’him Sykes, 18, of LaGrange
  • Terrance Woods, 18, of LaGrange

None of the suspects are Clayton State students and “were in Laker Hall without the knowledge or consent of the university,” Miles said. “The shooting is not believed to be a random incident.”

The four suspects face felony charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery, Miles said.

Clayton State University spokesperson Kelly Petty added, “The Clayton State University Police Department have worked tirelessly with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office to identify the four assailants suspected of being involved in the shooting on Clayton State University’s campus last Saturday.”

The GBI, Clayton State University Police Department, LaGrange Police Department, Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, and Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office are conducting a manhunt for the suspects.  Anyone with information as to their whereabouts is asked to call the LaGrange Police Department at (706) 883-2603, the GBI at 1-800-597-8477, or submit an online tip at https://gbi.georgia.gov/submit-tips-online
