UPDATE: 11 p.m.: The Fulton County Jail’s online inmate records show Walker’s booking date as Sept. 14; outstanding charges

Roderick Walker, the man whose arrest and beating by a Clayton County Sheriff’s deputy led to the officer’s firing and a demonstration at the jail Sunday, has been granted $25,000 bond, his civil attorney Shean Williams said.

As of 11 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, Walker’s name appeared as “booked,” according to Fulton County Jail’s online records. He faces three charges from 2016: possession of firearm during commission of a felony, probation violation-possession of firearm by convicted felon, and probation violation-first-degree cruelty to children. Walker’s record also indicates what appears to be an outstanding warrant in Hapeville.

The arresting agencies listed on some of Walker’s Clayton County online inmate records changed throughout Monday. At one point, College Park Police Department was listed as the arresting agency on one of Walker’s charges. College Park Police Chief Ferman Williford said his agency had not been involved in Walker’s arrest.

“Phoenix Boulevard is in the city limits of College Park and within Clayton County,” he said. “Our police department was not a part of the incident in question nor did we cite anyone. I am not sure how our agency got listed as being involved, but I am checking further into that.”

At 7:45, two other agencies appeared on Walker’s Clayton County charges—the Atlanta Police Department Fugitive Unit and Riverdale Police. Sheriff Victor Hill had said that he had ordered a courtesy signature bond following the arrest, but that Walker was held because he had outstanding warrants in two other jurisdictions.

As of 8:08 p.m., Walker’s name disappeared from the online list of current Clayton County Jail inmates. This usually happens when someone has posted bond and is about to be released.

At 8:22, 8:23, and 8:24 p.m., shortly after Walker’s name dropped from the online current inmate list, The Clayton Crescent observed a series of vehicles quickly exiting the sally port next to the jail breezeway but could not identify any agency markings. One vehicle was a police SUV running lights only. We are working to confirm whether Walker was turned over to Fulton County at that time or whether the vehicles were unrelated to his case.

A source told The Clayton Crescent that a direct transfer of an inmate from one law enforcement agency to another can be done as a safety measure.

By 11 p.m. on Sept. 14, Walker appeared to have been booked into the Fulton County Jail, based on online records.

Fulton County Jail records show Roderick Walker was booked on Aug. 14, 2020.
Roderick Walker apparently did not leave the Clayton County Jail through the breezeway, where news crews were staked out Sept. 14 and where protestors had gathered the previous day. The Clayton Crescent observed several cars, including one patrol SUV running lights only, quickly exiting the sally port minutes after Walker’s name was dropped from the online booking list.
