Firegfighters from Clayton County, South Fulton, and other agencies are fighting a large fire at the former Alchemix Plant at 2300 West Point Ave., College Park.

The Brazilian company Nitro Quimica acquired the assets of Northlake, IL-based Alchemix in 2016. According to Chemical World, Alchemix is North America’s largest producer of USP collodion, which is “a nitrocellulose-based solution for liquid bandages and dermatological products,” as well as ” one of the leading North American companies in providing chemical solutions to segments such as printing inks for packaging, treatments for wood surfaces, leather and automotive refinishing, special adhesives, nail polishes, and sulfuric acid used in dry cell batteries.”

The plant is next to the Fulton County Schools Warehouse, just across I-85 on the west side of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Other nearby businesses include Buckhead Beef of Atlanta and Sysco.

More to come.
