The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says it’s investigating an officer-involved shooting that followed a wild car chase through several front yards in a Jonesboro subdivision.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI after Fayetteville Police tried to stop a vehicle for reckless driving around 7:38 a.m. March 30.

The driver fled and Fayetteville Police requested backup from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the GBI, FCSO deputies “located the vehicle in the area of Grady Drive, Jonesboro, Clayton County, driving through numerous yards.”

When the car stopped and officers tried to arrest the juvenile driver, the vehicle allegedly sped towards them, and deputies fired, striking the driver.

The subject was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A deputy also suffered minor injuries. Charges were pending at press time.

The GBI will turn over the results of its investigation to the Clayton County District Attorney for review.
